Update on the Commercial Area Study for Highway 48 North

November 17, 2004

John Winter is the consultant who is studying the Markham Road retail permissions, the Main Street impacts and the merit of any changes in policy or zoning direction. His work is well underway.

Once it is complete, it, along with Winter’s earlier work for the Town will be the subject of a Peer Review.

The Terms of Reference have been prepared for the Peer Review Consultant and three candidate firms have been identified. Proposals will also be considered from any other firms wishing to make a bid.

Winter’s work should be completed by year end and the Peer Review component early in the then year.

October 2, 2004

In response to concerns expressed by a number of groups and individuals including the Markham Village Conservancy, Ward Councillor McKelvey held a community information meeting on the evening of Thursday, September 16, 2003. The purpose of this meeting was to inform the public of the background and status of the planning approvals in the area. Several speakers made a deputation, including Mr. S. Ridgley. For his presentation please click here.

After much discussion, I moved:

That the presentation by Mr. S. Ridgley, on behalf of the Markham Village BIA regarding the issues surrounding Main Street Markham, be received and referred, as a matter of priority, to Development Services Committee on October 5, 2004,

And that staff report back to Development Services Committee on October 5, 2004 on the cost, and merit, of including Main Street Unionville as part of a retail impact study.

For the full test of this part of the minutes of the meeting, please click here (19KB, PDF).

The staff report and the proposed recommendations for the Development Services Committee can be read by clicking here.

Please watch this space for more information as progress is made.

Your input is requested for the Proposed Development on Highway 48 North.
