A unique circumstance is having an interim negative impact on PowerStream’s ability to complete cable locate requests within the usual time frame of five days . They have communicated with all contractors and home owners who are waiting for a cable locate to ensure that they are aware of the situation.
PowerStream, as well as other utilities in southern Ontario, have been experiencing an extraordinary surge in underground cable locate requests (see the graph illustrating the increase in the number of underground cable locate requests within the 6 week "start-up" period beginning April 1, 2008). The increase can be attributed to an atypical winter season that was both early in arrival and longer in duration. This has resulted in a pent-up demand for cable locates for construction and other work that remained unfinished late in 2007 and for work planned early in 2008.
In response to this work volume, PowerStream staff is working diligently to reduce the backlog by working after hours and on weekends. We have also obtained the services of additional resources to perform cable locate work. It is anticipated that the backlog will be cleared within two weeks.
