Since I was first elected in 2003, the ramp from the 407 has been one of my priorities. It has been a long battle, but I finally have results.
When the 407 was first constructed, there was to be a full cloverleaf at the 9th Line and 407, but the residents of Box Grove complained to the Council of that day. They said that it would create too much traffic through their area and the Ward Councillor at that time agreed.
The design was changed. It may have been politically correct at that time, but it was wrong.
You have been inconvenienced as have the people on Delmark who have cars turning around in their driveways and the people who live on Kenilworth Gate.
I have in my hand a letter dated July 8, 2008 from Mr. Antonio de Santiago, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the 407, and in it he states that they are proceeding with the new ramp from northbound 9th Line to westbound 407. Their study shows that there is insufficient traffic to construct the eastbound ramp.
The engineering and design work has begun on the $2.05 million project, with to goal of having it commissioned and opened in the Fall of 2009.
I am encouraged that after 6 years of work, the ramp will finally be built.
