Who looks after the Street Lights in the Lanes?

The lane based properties in our newer subdivisions have brought new situations that needed solving.  The first concept was to have the streetlights attached to the garage and connected to the resident's power.  This saved having to have hydro poles and easements on the narrow lane.

However, some residents didn't replace the bulb when it burned out, which resulted in dark lanes.  Later subdivisions have a different arrangement.

So, the complete answer to this question is dependant upon the location of the property and the subdivision agreement applicable to that specific property.

The first phases of Cornell had a clause in the subdivision agreement that eventually became binding upon the homeowner.  The agreement is a form of a contract and the municipality has the right to remedial action under the Municipal Act.  As such, the Town may not be able to fine a resident, but could enter onto his property and repair / replace the light at his expense.

If you send me a specific address, I can get back with a definitive answer.
