Proposed Extension of the Overnight Parking in Cornell

Cornell, with it's lane based garages, dose not provide sufficient parking is some circumstances, such as a three car family.  Therefore Cornell is one of the few areas in the Town of Markham that has an overnight parking permit system.

As the new areas of Cornell are developed, it is up the residents that move in to decide if they wish the permitted parking in their area.

To that end, a survey is being done to ascertain the need.

The overnight parking permit system will allow the residents of Cornell, who reside in areas not currently approved for permit parking, to park on the street overnight between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. provided a valid permit has been obtained.

The permit conditions are as follows:

  • Permits will be issued to those addresses with more passenger vehicles than parking spaces available, to a maximum of four permits.
  • Cost of permits will be as follows:
    • 1st vehicle is $20.00 per month;
    • 2nd vehicle is $35.00 per month;
    • 3rd vehicle is $50.00 per month;
    • 4th vehicle is $50.00 per month.
  • Vehicles will be parked on the side of the street designated by signage.
  • Vehicle must have a permit displayed at all times while parked on the street between 2:30 a.m. – 6:00 a.m.
  • Failure to display a permit will result in a Parking Violation with an associated fine of $35.00.
  • Permits will not be issued to tow trucks, tractor trailers, cube vans, dump trucks, boats, snowmobiles, mobile homes, etc.
  • The Town reserves the right to revoke permits at its sole discretion.
