The following is a list of events that will be taking place and we will be utilizing the entire fairgrounds during this time.
THE EVENT
The Great Markham Stampede is to be an annual internationally recognized event that will increase the awareness of Markham, Stouffville and York Region, proudly presented by the Markham Board of Trade.
Kicking off the Markham Stampede will be Canada’s Number One Male Country Artist of the year and Juno Award-Winner, George Canyon with a concert on Friday night May 25th. Joining George Canyon on stage will be Beverley Mahood, host of CMT, and Wendell Ferguson, seven-time Canadian Country Guitarist of the year winner.
On to the “Main Event”, Saturday May 26th, the Markham Stampede will feature a vast array of all-day activities and entertainment for everyone to enjoy—no cowboy boots required (though strongly encouraged!)
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR DIVERSITY
With the support from the Markham Board of Trade and their Members, Volunteers, Business Owners and Sponsors, this event will bring the community together in exciting, memorable new ways. In designing the Stampede, we have been very sensitive to diversity. Country music, line dancing and games of chance are cultural bridges. We have created an event steeped in North American tradition, but infused it with entertainment; attractions and menus, which will make all visitors, feel welcome.
As part of a vast program, The Stampede will feature two rodeo shows. You will surely hear that there are people who feel rodeo is an inhumane sport to animals. We respect everyone’s right to an opinion, and the right to make choices, which is why the event was designed with many points of attraction for appeal and inclusiveness of everyone.
