Earth Hour - Saturday, March 28, 2008 8:00 - 9:00 pm

On March 29, the Town of Markham will join cities around the world and will turn out lights at the Markham Civic Centre and other municipal
facilities for one hour to raise awareness about global warming through the Earth Hour campaign.

Our goal: To get thousands of Markham businesses and individuals to participate in this historic event and reduce our impact on climate change. PowerStream will measure the Town's contribution to this worldwide effort.

On March 29, lights will go out in the Town of Markham

  • Lights and exterior signage at Town-owned buildings, such as the Markham Civic Centre and community centres, will go dark or dim. Street lighting and inside lighting for public safety will not change.
  • Staff leaving work on Friday will turn off all electricity at their workstations - shut down computers, turn off lights, and unplug electrical chargers.
